Frequently Asked Questions
1) Why do filters need to be changed?
Many filtration systems use carbon, charcoal or a blend of filter media to help reduce impurities. These systems generally reduce contaminants in one of two ways.First, some contaminants are filtered mechanically, meaning they are large enough to be trapped in the pores of the filter. Other contaminants adhere to the surface of the filter media. Eventually, the surface area of the filter media becomes filled and no more contaminants can be adsorbed. Or, in the case of mechanical filtration, the pores of the filter become so clogged with debris that water is unable to move through the filter effectively.
2) How long does a refrigerator water filter lasts?
It is recommended that you replace your water filters every six months.
3) How to reset refrigerator filters when buying a new water filter?
Run water from the dispenser for 3 minutes, reset the indicator light (if it has one): Press and hold the Reset pad on the dispenser for 3 seconds until the light goes off or turns green.
4) Refrigerator Filters General Installation Instructions
Refrigerator water filter removal and installation – majority of refrigerators:
- Twist the old filter half-turn counterclockwise
- Pull out the filter and discard
- Push the new filter into the fridge
- Twist the filter half-turn clockwise
5) Why is water leaking or spraying from the water filter?
Steps to verify the issue:
Remove water filter from the water filter manifold, see How to Remove Water Filter.
Inspect the water filter cartridge for cracks or damage.
If cartridge is cracked or damaged, contact the Water Filter Jungle Customer Care Team at +1 844 784 2416, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. CST.
Do not discard the water filter cartridge, it may be requested for inspection.
If cartridge is NOT cracked or damaged, it is normal for a small amount (several drops) of water to spill out of the water filter during replacement.
If water leak resumes, locate the water supply shut-off valve and turn the water supply off then remove the water filter from the manifold.
6) How often should I change my refrigerator air filter?
It is recommended that you change the refrigerator air filter every six months for peak performance. Also consider refrigerator and freezer deodorizers for odor protection and other great benefits. Remember to clean your refrigerator regularly to further minimize bacteria and to keep the food inside safe.
7) How does Reverse Osmosis work and what contaminants it removes?
Reverse Osmosis is a process in which dissolved inorganic solids (such as salts) are removed from a solution (such as water). This is accomplished by household water pressure pushing the tap water through a semipermeable membrane.
When household water pressure pushes water through the RO membrane and additional filters, such as sediment or carbon filters, the impurities are filtered out and subsequently flushed down the drain. What is left, is delicious, clean-tasting drinking water. Note that many RO units incorporate a 4-5 stage process for optimal water quality.
8) What does it mean to be certified by the NSF?
Choosing a product certified by NSF lets you know the company complies with strict standards and procedures imposed by NSF. From extensive product testing and material analyses to unannounced plant inspections, every aspect of a product’s development is thoroughly evaluated before it can earn our certification.
Most importantly, NSF certification is not a one-time event, but involves regular on-site inspections of manufacturing facilities and regular re-testing of products to ensure that they continue to meet the same high standards required to maintain certification over time. If for any reason a product fails to meet one or more certification criteria, NSF will take enforcement actions to protect you, including product recall, public notification or de-certification.
Products that earn NSF certification are said to be “NSF certified” or “NSF listed” and display the applicable NSF certification mark to show that they have been tested by one of today’s most respected independent product testing organizations.

Your city is required to provide you with water test results that show water hardness; just call the number on your water bill.
